Some Things You May (Not) Know I Like

I got bored today and started looking up songs I used to LOVE and then I just got carried away and added a few things that I wanted you to hear. The white guys doing Bo Hagon's phone call... I swear, my whole family can quote this phone call but it's always the last line we all say together. TOO funny. But seriously, if you've just got a second go straight to the last one and listen to the prank phone call. Ahhhhhhhhhhaaaaaaaaaaaaa

I LOOOOOOOOOVE this version of Britney's song. If she'd have just released THIS version with TI she'd have had a massive hit on her hands!

This is not a real phone call but is on the Crunk Juice CD by Lil Jon. Damn, n***a, get off the muthafuckinphone, n***a BYE!

This song is ooooooooooold but it never gets old. Does that make sense?

LOVE the beat to this song. Plus, 50 ain't bad to look at.

Never thought you'd see this guy on the same page as 50 cent, didja? Love this song.

Paul McCartney and Wings. Now THAT's good stuff!

I sang this song all the time as a kid.

Had a MONDO crush on Jack Wagner. Didn't everyone?

Great club song

Styx is awesome. Just not live. Worst concert I've ever been to!

Are you afraid of the dark?

I can't get enough of him. When Craig took me to his concert we were both blown away by this cover he did.

Ok this is one of the funniest things I've ever heard! I even have it on my lpod. My whole family loves it!!! (You do not tell me damn right!!!) ahahahahaaaaaaaaaa

I Didn't Cry THAT Much!

Well, I survived it. I am so exhausted today from the whole thing yesterday plus the emotional buildup just sapped my energy and today we're <s>still</s> working on the house.

So here's how it all went down yesterday. Ryan and I waited for Craig to get home from the golf course and he actually made it back by noon, so he loaded up the car then took a super quick shower and we were off. It's only about a 45minute drive from Crowley to Denton to we got there about 1:30. I only cried when we were about 10 minutes from Denton. See, we use a Monster cable and play my lpod through the stereo rather than listening to cds. I've got a 6 disc cd changer but it can't compete with 400 songs on the lpod. Anyway, that Trace Adkin's song You're Gonna Miss This came on and no matter how hard I tried I could NOT contain the tears. I think Ryan knew but she just reached to the front of the truck and patted my arm. I love that song but it just hits you right there. Ya know?

I think I got it under control about the time we pulled onto the campus.

The outside of her dorm is quite nice, I think. They got the new co-ed dorms just across from the basketball facility.

Ryan's roomie is from Houston so she moved in on Friday (which brought about Ryan moving in a week early) but I guess that's a good idea because they have a week to aclimate themselves to the campus, but their athletic workouts start tomorrow at 6am with a 2 mile run, then weightlifting in the afternoons with the trainers.

Her room mate's name is Mansa and she's a real sweetheart! We met her last year on a recruiting visit and we were so thrilled when we found out that she'd be Ryan's roommate.

Here's the pic of what it looks like when you walk into their dorm room. You enter into a kitchenette and dining area (with an attached bathroom for them to share) and in front of you are their two doors.

We just bought cheap plastic plates, bowls, cups and silverware from the T@rget $1 Spot. Not disposable, but not that far from it either. We also got them a burner, a coffee pot and a ton of food (even though they get three meals plus two snacks a day for free from their scholarships) but it was fun putting it all together. (Again, all that color!) I hope they're not hating what we put in there!

Mansa's room is all about cool and calm colors... like her personality. She's pretty laid back while still being very social. She managed to get her pictures hung up on Friday but Ryan won't get her's done until probably Wednesday or so. Pathetic!

I cropped out most of Mansa's room to preserve her privacy, but look behind them and you'll see the blue comforter. Her room is all soothing colors. Cool and calm. I really love Mansa in this pic but Ryan looks... wrong.

Both of the girls brought some of their senior posters (of themselves!! So much for humility, right?) and Ryan hung her favorite one (of her) on the outside of her bedroom door.

Now, you'll see Ryan's room. Good Lord its a riot of bright colors so I'm thinking she's gonna love it or hate it because she's got headaches from it or something!

After we got everything put away (which didn't take long at all) we ran with the girls to T@rget to get a few of the things we didn't plan for and they got some really cute stuff. Since they share a shower and toilet area ( I will NOT be taking pictures of that, thank you!) we let them pick out stuff for that room together and they were both totally on the same page.

Yari, my favorite Puerto Rican point guard on the team (she's the only one, but she's still my fav) came over to see Craig and I before we left the campus. She'll be a senior this year but is really having some injury issues so please keep your fingers crossed for her! (she calls me Mom, and I seriously adore this girl!)

We decided to get out of there and let them start their evening hanging out with the team. Love that whole built-in friend thing! On the way home and cold front moved in rather quickly taking the temp from 102 all the way down to 85 in just about 20 minutes. The clouds were AWESOME. This is what the sky looked like as we pulled into Crowley, about two miles from my house.

And it intensified by the time we pulled into the driveway.

My mom called to see how everything went and then asked me if I cried. I hadn't cried all the way home but as soon as I tried to answer her my throat slammed shut and I felt like I couldn't breathe but I got myself in check real quick and didn't cry again... until Ryan called me to say she was going to bed and for me not to miss her too much. Then, when she hung up I bawled for about 2 minutes and I was fine. I didn't cry again until I was putting the song on here and then of course I'm trying to type through the tears. Ugh, enough already!

So anyway, it all went really smooth and I'm happy for her. She'll be wearing the 00 basketball jersey this year and has even already been fitted for her track suit. I really am hoping for a great year for her... for all of them. Hell, for everybody!!!

WAIT!!! I'm Not Ready!

Oh, God... how did this happen? All these years we planned for this; knew it would happen but a fat lot of good that's doing me today. I could just fall apart at any minute.

I didn't cry when we did this with Austin, though I always just expected it. He is the other half of my personality and we just operate in much the same manner. But when he packed him up and drove him to Stephenville (about an hour and 15 minutes away) I was just happy for him. He's so stinkin' smart with an IQ classified in the "high superior" range (that is the literal term on the forms we got back from the Child Study Center some years ago. Yes, he's smart but he hates school with a passion because it's about repetition in many of the classes and he can really only stand to hear something once. If you bore him he'll pay no attention at all but this kid still managed great grades. Anyway, because of this personality tic I figured college was out for him, but when he surprised us and said he wanted to go we were all for it.

Two peas in a pod!

But when it came to Ryan we've known for a few years that college was a definite thing for her. She knows exactly what she wants to do (audiology) and she's really got a plan. We were thrilled when she chose a D1 school that was only about 45 minutes from us so that we could watch all her home games and maybe even a few away games... plus, they were the only school willing to let her play two sports. All the bases were covered.

I've been slowly buying all of her dorm stuff, catching all her kitchen stuff on sale at T@rget most of the time and just getting all the other stuff as I came across it. We picked up the remaining school/office stuff that she wanted yesterday at T@rget (another $150 trip) and was all prepared for her orientation/registration today so that she could start in the Summer II session begining July 7. They told her she'd move into her dorm on the 5th. Fine. Great... I was ready. (ok, that might not be totally honest!)

Like all other parents, I'd think she is beautiful no matter what!

Then, when we met with the coaches today they handed her the dorm key because her roommate is moving in today since she's from Houston. Wait.... what? When? Oh no! She's moving in tomorrow morning and truthfully I can't blame her. She's so excited and I would feel exactly the same way. I DO feel the same way for her... but for me, today, my heart is breaking.

There is almost no one on the planet who can piss me off like she can and we can fight with the best of them. But most of the time she has this sunny personality that's just so bubbly and fun that you can't help but smile. Everyone says that about her... her teachers, coaches, teammates (alright, maybe not team mates!) She's really just a sweet kid.

Ok, maybe "no matter what" is a bit far! LMAO! I was so worried this hit broke her perfect nose!

It's hard thinking that when I wake up Sunday morning she'll not be here. Yeah, yeah... she'll only be 45 minutes away, but she won't be here. I know it sounds like I'm planning a funeral instead of a move and I really don't mean to sound so melodramatic, I'm just naturally good at that! Seriously, I'm happy for her and SO excited about the next few years but there's just a tiny hole in my soul today.

I'm just not ready. Not yet.

We were so tired from the long drive to Atlanta, but awake enough for a good hug!

THE Trip!

Well, I must say I was pleasantly surprised about this trip. Maybe that sounds silly, especially in light of the fact that Craig's company paid for the entire trip. What's not to enjoy, right? Well, we did the same thing last year (and they paid then, too) so I just figured this would be a total repeat of last year. WRONG!!!

Craig and I flew in on Thursday because he had some meetings with CV$ that needed to be done. We flew into Boston and drove into Providence. (Last year we stayed in Newport) Our hotel was The Westin and it was oh so fab! I mean any hotel that is adjacent to the MALL has to be rockin'.

Friday morning I slept in while Craig held his meetings. He got back to the hotel about 1pm and we ran over to Fire & Ice (we also ate at this restaurant while in Tahoe) and pigged out. Then we needed to walk off the food so we decided to make a cursory run through the mall and I had to drag Craig into my favorite store, Tiffany's. I showed Craig all the things on my wish list and he asked a few questions, pretending he was interested (this thought will come back to haunt me!)

Friday evening, after Craig's employees got there, we hosted a dinner for them and their wives at 3 Steeple Street . The food was good, but not great but we all had a good time just visiting and hanging out (not to mention the wine!!!)

Saturday morning Craig and his clients played a round of golf at Waverly Oaks in Mass. He played great, winning 2nd place. But the ladies decided this was our best opportunity to REALLY shop and boy did we ever! I bought a few things but I was, by NO MEANS, the lady who bought the most. I think I was probably middle of the road. Wanna see what I bought?

Got these shoes at Macy's for 1/2 price! (Only $32)

Got this black clutch to carry to the gala (more on this in a sec) at Macy's for only $21

Got this black Fossil bag for $38

Got Craig some great preppy golf shorts, a couple of Izod golf shirts and a couple more Nike golf shirts. Then I got, what was for ME, the best purchase of the day.

I found this great red, short trench coat that had been marked down from $109 to $54 so I took it to the cashier. She pointed out that the jacket was marked down even further so I got the whole thing, tax included for $21.80! Crazy!

Sunday morning was the pro-am at Rhode Island Country Club. This whole thing is for the 10th anniversary of the CV$ Charity Golf Classic. Craig and three of his clients played in it ( it cost Craig’s company $20k for the foursome!) and they chose Jeff Gove as their pro and finished at 8 under.

This is Jeff Gove (dark blue shirt) his caddy and Craig on the 3rd green

I don't know how well you'll be able to see it on here but I love this picture. Craig is hitting the ball and a huge chunk of grass came up (you can see it) and you can even see the ball right in front of Steve (in the red and white shirt). Along with Steve, Craig's other clients with CV$, Mark and Frank, are standing at the golf cart with Jeff.

Pretty darn good! He came home with a HUGE bag of golf clothes and shoes plus a putter that they give all the competitors. At this point I was seriously wondering if I needed to go buy another suitcase.

Monday was the start of the regular tourney so we went to the course for that but didn’t stay long because we had to go to the gala that night. I was already a nervous wreck because we were going to be seated at the table of the CEO of Craig’s company and the head of CV$. I really needed to make sure my mouth didn’t overload my ass. Know what I mean?

So we’re about to leave the hotel to head to Newport for the gala and Craig says something about a problem with my makeup. I look in the mirror and don’t see anything different from the same old ugly mug I look at every day but he really kept pushing it. Finally he said, “Why don’t you go into the bathroom and use that mirror because the light is much better in there!” So off to the bathroom I go… only to find this

OMG I screamed, “You sonofabitch!” (I know, not what you’d normally say when someone gives you a gift!) I was just so shocked and caught completely off guard! He’s rarely able to pull anything over on me like that but he got me this time!

In the bag I found this

In the box I found this

In the pouch I found this

It could have been another red pipe cleaner and I'd have still loved it. Besides, TIffany has the prettiest shade of blue anywhere!! I don't care that the vast majority of my jewelry is yellow gold. I've got quite a bit of white gold, too, so I guess I'll have to start wearing it. The jeweler says that nowadays people just cram it all on there together. Whatever!

God, I love this man! It’s not that its terribly expensive or anything. It’s just that he wanted to make the night really special. I’ll certainly remember it for many reasons but this will be my favorite.
Then we headed to Newport to find The Breakers. All I can say about this is WOWOWOWOWOWOWOW! It is the “summer cottage” of the Vanderbilt family… if you consider a 70 room palace a summer cottage. It’s truly stunning and sits right on the edge of the Atlantic. Breathtaking, really. We stayed for a few hours, then headed out when the Pointer Sisters (I know!!!) got to their fourth or fifth song.
Tuesday we went back to the tournament for the finish but a huge storm blew in and it all went to pot pretty quick. These next two pics were taken from my cell phone. This is the 18th green under water.

Then we headed to the airport where we ran into the back half of the storm and the hail was so bad they had to bring out the ice scrapers to get it off the roads. It’s ice that you see in the middle of the highway. I wish I’d been able to get a shot of the hail on the sides of the road. It looked like snow piling up!

We got to the airport at 4:30 for a 5:35 flight. Got to the gate at 5:10 so we lost our first class upgrades (waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaH) but the plane back away from the gate RIGHT ON TIME. Then, a HUGE bolt of lightning hit the ground near the plane so the little tow truck thingy drove off for cover and left us sitting there…. For 2 and a half hours! I was so pissed! That’s almost exactly what happened last year!
We finally got home around 11 last night and I’m pooped. Ryan and I got in a little shopping today but I didn’t even have enough energy to really enjoy it.

Still, I had a great week!

Exhaustion

I really need a nap in a big way. I haven't gotten a good night's sleep in a few days (maybe since.... last thursday?) and there's just so much to do that I'm going to run out of time.

The biggest problem I'm having right now is getting all of my clothes packed and ready. It may not seem like a big deal but we have events straight through from Thursday to Tuesday and most of the days will involve a change of clothes for dinner. That's a WHOLE lotta stuff! I'm tired just thinking about it.

To top that off, Craig is the host for the lead off dinner party and I've been going just slightly nuts trying to plan the perfect place and meal. I really just want it to be perfect for him because he's going to be hosting people from all over the country and I just don't want to be the cause of it not going right.

You wouldn't believe our itinerary. It goes on for days and days. I don't know if I have enough energy for this. I went last year but we were just sort of hosting some of Craig's clients. This time he is actually playing in the Pro-Am (www.cvscharityclassic.com) and a bunch of his employees and their wives will be there, too.

I'm glad we're not staying in Newport this year. Don't get me wrong, it was lovely, but Providence has some great places and our hotel is RIGHT at the Providence Place Mall. I LOVE Westin hotels. Yay!!!

Anyway, I'm almost done. As soon as "So You Think You Can Dance" is over, I'm off to beddy-bye!

Well, I Guess I Should Have Expected It

I forgot to post what happened when Craig and I went and bought his new suit the other day.

We are standing in Jos A Bank waiting on the tailor to come mark up his suit and there is a lady in the front of the store trying to wrangle 3 kids. They were wired and she really was doing the best she could. Honestly, a MUCH better job than I could have done... I felt for her, though. The store was slammed and the line for people to check out was getting long and these stores are NOT big. My head was starting to hurt though and I turned to Craig to say something and about that time at LEAST two of those kids did that high pitched, shrill scream that felt like someone parked a ginsu knife right in the middle of my temporal lobe. I knew I wasn't in earshot of that mother so I quickly turned back to Craig and said, "Oh God, I can't do that. I'll wait outside!"

About that time, a man who had been standing on the other side of the checkout area THE WHOLE TIME looked me square in the eyes and sarcastically said, "I guess you don't have any kids, do you?" So my immediate thought is, "Alright, mother fucker... this is how you want to do this?" But instead I looked and him when he said it the SECOND time and said, "Actually, I have 3." (This is where I wanted to say, dickweed! But I didn't) I didn't plan on saying anything more, but then he got louder and said, "Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhh I guess they're perfect angels!"

At this point, I'm pissed and I really just wanted to tell him he's right, of COURSE my kids are perfect... when, DUHHHHH he's dead wrong, but I just ignored it again. AGAIN! I'm on a roll at this point. A freakin' paragon of patience and grace! (yeah, right!) Now really, Craig had to be downright shocked that I hadn't said anything more at this point because I've unloaded on people for alot less than that before... ESPECIALLY if you're gonna call me out in public? At that point, I go for broke and I will do everything I can go verbally cut you off at the knees. But I'm still standing there quietly beside Craig (shocking, I know!) and the stupid ass short bastard said it AGAIN.

Now, my personal opinion is that he really deserves to get his ass kicked and I'm really ready to take that task on, but I managed to take a deep breath and just say, "Look, I didn't call you out in here and I'd really appreciate it if you wouldn't do it to me." And I actually let it go.

WTF is wrong with me? That's not the normal me! Even though I KNOW that I SHOULD be like that more often... it's really just not my forte. Craig is pretty certain at this point that someone has kidnapped his real wife and sent in a double because I'm not known for holding my tongue... and that doesn't bother me a bit most of the time. (Shocking, right?)

And part of what pissed me off about the whole thing is those damn brats were screaming off and on for a good 10-15 minutes and it just kept getting louder and louder. And there was that poor mother trying to keep them all near her because you could tell those kids were capable of dismantling that entire building inside of 12 minutes. Then it dawned on me that that sorry bastard had stood there and it was HIS wife and HIS kids (I was too busy patting myself on the back for my patience to think about that the last two or three minutes) That short-shit LET HIS WIFE DO ALL THE WORK OF TRYING TO CORAL THREE KIDS WHO ALL HAD TO BE UNDER THE AGE OF 7 ALL BY HERSELF and he was standing in line holding a single dress shirt and tie. He COULD NOT have been taller than 5'6. Short man syndrome all the way. And still I kept my mouth shut. That restraint in and of itself pretty much proved I deserved all that shopping I've done.

So I'm gonna go do a little more... not today, but definitely tomorrow! Yay! However, its not for myself. Ryan actually got a job (gasp!!!!) to make some money before she heads to Denton in July to start working out with the coaching staff and getting strong enough so that when they can actually start college basketball practice she'll have the muscle mass to hold her own (hopefully). I mean, she's strong, but she's not as strong as they are. They have weightlifting regimines that rival that of the football team. They are actually on the same program depending on their individual needs.

Really, I can't wait for all that to get started. I can't wait to see my daughter step out onto the court to play a game for a D1 university. Back in 7th grade when Craig asked her what her goals were she said (and I quote) "All I want is a D1 scholarship. I don't just want to make the team. I want a full ride and I'll be happy with wherever that turns out to be." We really had no idea that things would really come around in her favor (she was AWFUL!!!) and she'd actually have some choices. I want her to be proud of herself for that, but not boastful. That's my job. Let people get pissed off at me for bragging on my kid. I want her to be humble. (yet another example of something that's just not my forte)

Peace~ Happy Father's Day!!!

Cleaning Out My Closet

Good God, I can't believe what I'm about to share with you. My closet was so overstuffed with clothes that I ended up having hangers hanging off other hangers so that I could get everything in there. In a fit of frustration I tossed everything onto my bed and started throwing out what I didn't want. Here's the breakdown of what I kept.

Here is everything just piled on the bed.

At this point I got tired of everything and just threw the rest out. I did, however, keep two dress jackets, 6 camisoles of varying colors, a big winter sweater, 2 skirts and 2 nighties.

I now have two 45 gallon trash bags full of clothes to take to House of Hope. Tomorrow I'm going to go through my shoes and purses.

Goin' To The Dentist

My sister couldn't get off work so I ended up taking my niece to the dentist today for her first appointment. She was so funny! When they first tried getting the toothbrush in her mouth she squirmed and cried and kept trying to brush her hair with it. Then she realized that whatever was on it tasted good and then she wouldn't get it out of her mouth at all. Soooo funny!

All day she kept saying "Onnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnteeeeeeeee" (her version of Auntie) and I love it! She spent most of the day spelling out the words on my shirt. I've just had on this old t-shirt with the name of the kids' elementary school on it so all day long I heard, "B E S S R A C E" She knows her damn letters, that's for sure! I make a real effort not to cuss around her but today I dropped my lense cap for the camera and said, "Oh shoot!" and sure enough, she repeated it perfectly. My sister would have slit my throat if I'd have said "shit!" When my kids were little I wouldn't cuss around them, but my mother slipped and nearly fell one night when Austin was about a year and a half old. She said, "Oh shit!" and Austin looked right at her and said, "Shit, gongong, shit!" (Gongong was his version of Grandma for about 4 months)

I also had to take my engagement ring to the jewelry store and get my prongs redone. My ring sits up pretty high and I've bent the crap out them and the diamond finally started moving. I've only taken my ring off on four occasions (surgeries) and it went right back on as soon as I was out of surgery so I was dreading not having it. To my total surpise they had my ring ready three hours later! How's THAT for service? I also had them solder my wedding ring to it... finally!

So Friday I'm going to buy a new lense for my camera. Actually, that's not definite but I do want to get a lense extender at the very least. Craig just told me to get it if I want it... so I shouldn't pass that up, right?

I Heard It Through The Grapevine Telephone

Today I finally gave in and gave Kyra a cell phone. She damn near crawled out of her skin she was so excited! I don't think I've ever seen her like that since she was 8 or 9 years old! Ryan said that Kyra is texting her like crazy and when Ryan asked her if she was excited about it, Kyra's response was, "Hell YEAH!" Funny how something so small means that much to teenagers. Austin and Ryan are hardwired to their phones so I'll expect nothing less from Kyra.

Today while Ryan and I were out running errands (shopping!!!) she got a call from the track coach at UNT who told her that she qualified for the US Junior Nationals at Ohio State next weekend but the coach got caught up in their plans and forgot to tell Ryan... until today when another coach who's there for some camp with this college coach asked her if Ryan was coming. Craig and I will be leaving for Boston next week so we can't take her and that means she's had to ask her dad to take her. Ughhh, that'll be a mess... if he can even do it. I've offered to pay for everything if he'll do it but I guess we won't know for a couple of days whether he can or not. If she places anywhere in the top 4 she will make the US National team.

So the bathroom is finished and it looks amazing, I think. I'll post some pics tomorrow or something. Maybe I'll wait until the new toilet goes in this weekend.

Can you keep a secret? Shhhhhhhhhhhh don't tell Craig, but I've got to quit shopping. I've bought 15 new outfits (with shoes) in the last month. I don't know why Craig hasn't said anything about it but I have a sneaking suspicion that he's enjoying his new clothes, too. When Craig and I met he wore, let's just say... well, he didn't dress well. Dockers and hushpuppies for work. So when we got together I immediately started buying him clothes... nice clothes. I happen to love a man who dresses to the nines and he will wear whatever I buy. Today we bought him a fantastic suit and I can't wait for him to wear it! It's a navy pinstripe suit and I LOVE him in blue. Anyway, he hasn't said anything (yet) about all my clothes sooooooooooooo I'm not gonna push it.

Let's Go Racin'

We are ALMOST done with the bathroom! Yay! All that's left is to <s>drop the new sink into the new vanity top</s> put on the wainscot and then put the new towel rods and toilet paper holder up. <s>We're doing that today</s> We'll be doing that each night this week until its done. Oh yeah, the new toilet has to be put in but that's probably going to be next weekend. The one that's in there works fine but I wanted a new one. It looks awesome!

Last night Craig and I headed out to Texas Motor Speedway for the IRL race. One of his clients had rented out a condo in the building overlooking turn 2 so we had great front row seats. They had pit passes, so we went down into the pits and the garage. I didn't realize Craig had never been in there during all the races we've been at. I guess I always took Austin down and just didn't realize it. So anyway, we did all that then headed back to the condo after Robbie Knievel jumped his 21 Hummers (he almost crashed on the landing which would have been awesome! No, I'm not wishing he got hurt but to watch a massive wipeout is cool)

Anyway, we were back in the condo and eat and drank til the race was over. I was really pulling for Marco Andretti (Mario's grandson and Michael's son) to win but he had a HUGE crash between turns 3 and 4 with only 4 laps to go so the race was effectively over. After it was done I noticed one of the guys looking at a card that was similar to the pit passes, only it wasn't a pit pass. He finished looking at it and sat it down so I picked it up. I just looked at Craig and said, "God damnit! Look at this!" He was as floored as I was. I can't believe that I didn't see this when we had picked up our pit passes.

It was a hot pass and no one in the condo knew what that meant so I had to tell them, feeling a little sick to my stomach. You take this card down to the IRL credentials office in the garage area and they photograph you and give you a hard card... and with that you can stand in the pits through the WHOLE RACE if you wanted to. Pit passes have to be cleared and out of the area before the race starts, but a hot pass allows you to be there even when the track is "hot" (that means cars actually racing on the track) and those are NOT easy to come by. Uggghh, maybe next time.

More Bathroom Stories

Well, we finally got the bathroom textured and paint on the walls. It looks fan-fucking-tastic if I do say so myself! The accent color really stands out without standing out (if that makes any sense) and I love it!!

I used the Wagner Power Texturer and the Wagner Power Painter. SOOOOO many people told me not to do it, to hire someone and let them but we gave it a shot and I don't regret it one bit!

The Graduate

Well, she did it. I'm quite proud of her. She was convinced she wasn't going to toss her hat, but of course she did!

We went to Friday's before the ceremony, mostly to pass time. That's where we gave her the gift (the Coach bag) but she reaaaaaaaaaally loved the gift bag because it had the Little Mermaid on it!

Phew!!!

Well, Ryan decided last night not to go to the track meet in New Mexico this weekend. She hasn't had a single day of practice since state and its pretty pointless to go if you're not going to do well. I just called the main guy for the meet and he was really disappointed because they have been advertising this event heavily because it's the first time that 4 girls would be competing that have cleared 5' 10" or more (2 at 5' 10" and 2 at 6'). Damn, that sucks because that would have been awesome to watch, I think. We found out this week that she made the All State Track Team so she'll have a track meet in July that she goes to for that. At least that's only in Arlington!

However, that DOES mean that the front bathroom will get finished this weekend so I guess there's something positive from that. We've gotten alot done but it took longer than we expected for the joint compound to dry, then get sanded and a second coat on, dry and sanded. So tomorrow the walls get the texture and the vanity gets the first coat of black paint. Then, we'll start the paint on the walls tomorrow evening. Wednesday will be spent on 2nd coats of paint for both and then the new top and sink put on the vanity. Last thing will be putting in the wainscotting and doing the final coat of paint after its installed (already put 2 coats of paint on the raw wood) and touch up the walls and trim where needed. Then I'll take a razorblade to the ceramic tile where some of the ceiling paint dripped and I'll be DONE... with the bathroom.

I got the tape and bedding done in the hallway so it's just a matter of spraying on the texture and then painting. We've gotten all new doors and plantation blinds for every room in the house (the 6 panel doors) and new hardware so those will probably take a day to do. Then we'll leave for Boston but as soon as we get back we start the livingroom. I can't WAIT!!! I'm actually motivated right now! This means that we will actually be finished with all of that by the end of July and that excites me. I am just really chomping at the bit to start the kitchen but I'm also dreading it like crazy.

Saturday Evening Night Post

I'm exhausted and I'm pissed. I'm exhausted from yet another day of that fucking bathroom.

So Craig went and played golf this morning as he does every weekend day. No big deal. But, I couldn't get the lid off the bucket of joint compound so I didn't really get much done until he got home. This house is old and when we bought it a few years ago we did some minimal decorating just to get by until we knew for sure what we wanted to do. We went with a rustic style so that we didn't have to update either until we knew what we were going to do. Then, of course, Ryan started played in 3 basketball leagues within 4 months of us moving in and all hope was lost of getting it done until it was time for her to graduate because we travel so much for her stuff. We DID manage to get our bedroom done but that was because we HAD to after the damage from the water happened.

So, in this front bathroom there was this really ugly old wall heater that didn't even work but was still in the wall and the sheetrock had some damage under the paint that I didn't know about until the other day when we popped off the baseboards. So we chose to go with wainscotting around the walls that goes up (I think) 38 inches. It looks really good. The floor has almost new ceramic tile so that's all good. We put in new recessed lighting today and prepped the walls for the new texture that goes on tomorrow. Once that's up, I'll be painting the vanity although its taking forever because we're going from white to black.

I got the shower curtain and towels today (Kohl's sale was great!) and I can now see a light at the end of the tunnel. I'd like to be through with the bathroom and hallway (also getting retextured and new baseboards) with in two weeks so that we're clear to start the livingroom as soon as we get home from Boston.

As soon as the living room walls are done the new floor goes in. This new flooring is going from the living room through the hallway and all three kids bedrooms and will match what we put in our room. The rest of the house is all ceramic tile (miles of it) except the front living room so nothing but hard surfaces on the floor except for the rugs... once I pick them out. After that, we're purchasing a black cabinet for the living room that has a lift in it for the 52'' plasma tv. I'll probably stop there, then we'll pick up next spring to do the outside painting and putting in a new yard and wood fence.

And that should do it. Oh yeah, I forgot. Craig rewired the whole bathroom!! He's terrified of working with it (me, too!) but he really did a good job and now we have an extra outlet in there!

Now, to what Ryan did to piss me off. I swear to GOD I could beat her ass right now. I've blogged about how shitty she's been the last week or so but today she looked me SQUARE IN THE EYES and lied. I fucking HATE being lied to (or about). Almost nothing will piss me off as much as that and I will make it my life's goal to fuck you up if you lie to me. If I ask you a question and you don't want me to know the answer, just say so. Lies are totally unnecessary. I'd rather someone spit in my face than tell me a lie and she did it. The worst part of the whole thing is that it WASN'T EVEN ANYTHING MAJOR. OMG I could scream I'm so pissed. I'm sure my attitude isn't helping. My arthritis has flared severely and my right foot is the worst. My hands and my feet took a beating for years as an athlete but all the years of gymnastics did the most damage. I don't want to take pain medicine for it so its really just a matter of "grin and bear it." Nice, huh?

Now back to our regularly scheduled program. G'night!
