Not Such A Disappointment

Well, the game Friday didn't really go as planned. We lost by 1pt. I can't believe it. The parents were pretty pissed because there were so many things in our arsenal that just weren't utilized. Ryan and our point guard never came off the court. Not even for a quick break-nothing. 32straight minutes of playing. I can't complain about that, though. But the other post who played should NOT have been on the court. She had 8 turnovers in the first quarter ALONE. And for some reason our coach refused to put Rachel in (another of our posts). It was just a very frustrating game.

With 30 seconds left in the game we were ahead by 2. Ryan went in for the layup and got clobbered. She missed BOTH of her free throws. (earlier in the game the ref waved off one of her free throws, saying the stepped over the line, but one of our parents was shooting pictures and she proved Ryan was CLEARLY behind the line). She is shooting over 80% of her free throws for the SEASON. That's HUGE! So to miss two of them in a row was really disappointing. (I don't know if she was just too tired at that point from not getting a break, or what but she shouldn't have missed them). Then, the other team marches down and hits a 3... totally undefended because our girl wouldn't step up and get in her face. We weren't able to get the ball back until there was only 6/10 of a second left. And we lost. The San Angelo paper's headline for the article on Saturday said, "Crowley Misses Two Late FT's and looses to Randall". Ouch! I thought that would upset Ryan but she just shrugged and said, "I did my best!" Good for her.
Here's the Star Telegram article.

So Monday she starts track and has her first track meet on Saturday. She's missed the first two trackmeets because of basketball. We will also be starting AAU basketball in a couple of weeks to get ready for the Nike and Adidas circuit starting in April. And so it begins.

Here are some pics from the playoffs...

SOOOO Exciting!

Last night, Ryan's (school) basketball team played for the Regional Quarter Finals, being two games away from the State Championship game. It was SO exciting. We took the first quarter 11-1, then the second quarter ended with the score 20-17. So we had to sit through a very tense half-time wondering if the oposing team was going to come back from halftime strong. They did, but our girls came out on a screaming tear and totally dominated them.

So they are on their way to San Angelo for the Regional Semi-Final game to be played on Friday. If they win that, they'll play for the Regional Championship on Saturday. If they win THAT we play for the Texas State 4A Championship. No girls' team from Crowley has ever gone this far (in basketball). Craig is in Nashville today and won't be back until tomorrow morning so we'll head down there then.

Ryan had a FANTASTIC game... probably the best we've ever seen her play. One of the college coaches that's recruiting her showed up to the game last night and afterwards asked Ryan's coach if Ryan was capable like that every game. He said she almost always plays like that. Big compliment!

Anyway, I'm proud of ALL the girls on the team. They all played together SO well and just looked like they had a ton of fun doing it! As the school bus rolled into town last night after the game, they were escorted by two police cars (one in front, one in back) with their lights and sirens blaring! All the cars that were coming down Main St obviously pulled over but when they saw that the Police were escorting a school bus everyone started honking their horns. It was really cool for the girls! Such is life in small town Texas. We lovessssss us some sports!!

Meme

I didn't really have anything to post about so I stole this from Cheaper Than Thereapy blog and added one question from another blog.

Here goes...

1. Do you fart in front of each other? what about pee?
I don't mind peeing in front of him but nothing else- and I don't want him to do it in front of me. Smells make me sick (thus why I'm no longer in nursing) and if anyone farts in front of me I'll make a beeling for the exit. My kids used to think it was hysterical to do it in the car... IN BAD WEATHER... because I'd roll the window down and hang my head out the window... once, even during a hailstorm. Nuh-uh. No way, no how.

2. what would be your dream job? The most wonderful thing you could get paid for doing, ever?
Truthfully, it would involve some time of social work, but I found out in nursing school that I am not able to leave work at work and some nights I'd cry. Best to stay away from that... too depressing.

3. Where were you when you lost your virginity?
I was in my bedroom with my (now) ex-husband.

4. Do you prefer carpets or hardwoods? And I don’t mean on your floors.
Hardwood. Private and at home

5. What is your secret, comfort food indulgence that you are embarassed to admit because some may find it disgusting?
I can't think of anything that I eat that I would embarassed for people to know. I put salt on EVERYTHING, including apples and watermelon. Alot of people do so that's not too weird, I guess. As far as my comfort food, I'm a carbo-holic, in a bad way.

6. Weird fact about yourself
Well, I've got plenty of weird things but I think the strangest is the fact that I cannot STAND to hear fluids sloshing around inside a container . (Think salad dressing in the plastic bottle). I know it's bizzare but it might as well be fingernails on a chalkboard. I hate it.

So, there you have it.

Crowley Wins!

First, let me tell you that I didn't take the job. It would have been fun but I am just not willing to miss any events with the kids and I wouldn't want to have to constantly ask for time off. So, adios to the job. No big thing. (Craig surprised me by saying he LIKES me being able to stay home. Oh REALLY? I must find a way to capitalize on this! LOL)

Moving on... Last night Ryan's team played for the Area Championship. We'd already won the District Championship and Bi-District Championship but we weren't picked to win this one. We were down until midway through the 4th quarter and then they really picked up steam. It was pretty exciting!

The Ft. Worth Star Telegram interviewed Ryan after the game and they have a GOD AWFUL picture of her in it. Here's the link. So now we wait to see who we play next Wednesday. Either one of the teams will be difficult.

What To Do?

I was offered a job today. I sort of want to take it just to have something to do, but the problem is that I'm not willing to miss any of my daughter's sporting events and I'd have to ask for time off, right off the bat. No clue what to do.

The money isn't fantastic, but that's not important. I'm not sure what I'll do now.

Sad Ssturday

Today was another one of "those" days, but not for the reasons that I typically whine about.

This morning Ryan's team took part in a "Playoff Warmup" out at Tarleton State University. Lots of teams playing and we ended up with a team from Ab!lene. We were really excited about this because the only reason we're playing in it is that we won the district championship so we have a by through the first two rounds and we don't play until Thursday. During the first posession by the other team one of thier girls went down and had grabbed her knee.

She was right under their basket and at first nobody said anything-but one look at her leg we knew she was in trouble. She was holding her knee but the tibia and fibula were both OBVIOUSLY broken. The trainers for Tarleton came out and stabilized her while they waited on an ambulance. Our girls left the area near our bench and went over to their bench where they all gathered hands and prayed. It was really a sweet moment, reminding all of them that its not always just about the score. Then, their coach passed out while standing beside her so there was a TON of activity. After about 15 or 20 minutes they got the girl ready to go and the game was finally underway. Not surprisingly, the other team didn't do well. (The sadness for the day doesn't end here)

Ryan had a pretty blase first half but came out with a vengeance in the 2nd half. Her defensive game was as good as I've ever seen her and her offensive game was good enough to end up being the leading scorer. She always "fronts" the girl she's defending. Here she not only successfully defended her but ended up stealing the ball at the end of this play. (She's number 30 on the purple team. The girl she's defending is behind her- notice the elbow in the air? The girl clobbered her in the head with it right before this picture)

So after the game we came home and I had to call my parents because they were forced to put down one of their Maltese (dog) today. He was only 7 but on Tuesday the vet told them he was basically dealing with heart failure. My mom and dad are heartbroken. Max had gone blind about a year or two ago- he litterally woke up one day and was blind. The vet said it had something to do with his liver or kidneys (don't remember which) and I guess the meds he was taking affected his heart. Molly, their other dog has always mothered him so I'd imagine they're also worried about her. I've been in their shoes before and nothing ever softens the blow. Heartbreaking for them...

But, on an exciting note.... Daytona starts today!! The Budweiser Shootout starts in 40minutes and I plan on parking my ass right in front of the tv. My main man(ridiculous if you don't know who he is)- starts 17th. You'll probably hear me cheering in your neck of the woods!

February 6, 2007

I've had a crappy day so far. I had to go to the dentist this morning for a root canal. It hurts like hell. It was still too infected for her to finish and close it so I get the absolute misery of going back next week after round two of antibiotics. Blech. I'm sure it won't stop me from cheering loudly during the game tonight!

One of the colleges recruiting Ryan has coaches coming to her game tonight. I hope it doesn't make her too nervous but she has no pressure tonight since they've already clinched the district title.

Truthfully, my mouth hurts too bad for me to even care much, so I'm outta here. Ciao!

Good Weekend

Ryan's team won the District Championship!!! We're really excited about that because CHS girls hasn't pulled that off since before MY freshman year. So after Tuesday's game we'll start the playoffs but I'm guessing that we'll have a by through the first round which could mean no games for about a week. Ryan's letter jacket is not going to have any room for her patches, though. Right now she only has all her Freshman patches and one of her sophomore patches (for volleyball on her left sleeve she has freshman letterman and all district and another all district for sophomore, then basketball is on the right sleeve. freshman letterman, all district, and bi-district champs. For track- running across the bottom of the back of her jacket is freshman letterman, and district champs). Her sophomore patches will be in this month (basketball all district and for track she's got 3 patches, but the only one she really cares about is that State patch).

Friday night and Saturday I kept the baby again. We took her to Ryan's game on Friday and she was so good we decided to stay for the boys' game. (We normally stay but I wasn't sure she'd be able to handle it since it started at 8:30pm). She was soo good!!

Anyway, Saturday morning I heard her talking away in her crib so I got up and went to get her. She is SUCH a happy baby in the morning, much like Austin was. (Ryan, NO WAY!!!) So I brought her into our bedroom and played with her a little while when she started getting sleepy again. I hadn't fed her yet so I went to go make a bottle and her cereal while Craig watched her. I swear, the whole thing couldn't have taken me 5 minutes to complete but when I got back into my bedroom, this is what I found. LOL

Too cute! (Notice the similarity between them? lmao!)

February 3, 2007

Ryan returned to basketball tonight- it wasn't fantastic, but it was good. She was the 2nd leading scorer and only played slightly less than half the game. Overall, not too bad.

We've got the baby again so she went to the games with us. She was so good we even stayed for the boys' game. She slept though the vast majority of it even though the very large crowd was going nuts. She's a very sweet little girl and I looooooooove having her here. Hell, even Craig is having fun with her. Shocks the shit outta me!!!
