More Than Bad Weather

In the Ft. Worth St@r-Telegram this morning they said the Crowley (Ft Worth) area had been hit really hard by last night's bad weather. Then, there is http://www.star-telegram.com/804/story/600580.html">this.

A couple of years ago, some students at Burleson (2 miles from us) High School brought purses to school that had the Confederate Flag on them. According to this certain teacher (who is now Ryan's assistant basketball coach in Crowley) they students brought these purses to school as a personal statement to HER (she's white, married to a black man). I have no reason not to believe her, but I also don't know that this is fact (just so we're clear). Burleson is one of those towns that people think most southerners are like. It has been rumored for YEARS that the KKK still meets at one of the local restaurants every month. This coach said that she and the student were very close and something happened that she had to write this student up and it went downhill from there. Allegedly, once the coach complained to the school district and they suspended that student, the student's mother threatened the coaches small child and they actually had to lock down the daycare. (Again, this is just what the coach told me)

I'm a born and bred southerner, and I think the Confederate flag is more about heritage than hate but I certainly understand that it is offensive to some people and therefor I would never display it (if I owned one) out of respect for those feelings.

What a mess, and what a waste that school district funds are being spent on a legal battle that shouldn't have been started at all.
