Round Two
update: We just got back from buying her tennis shoes and some more clothes. The poor girl is only 5ft 2. She didn't grow even a fraction of an inch while she was gone but she now wears a size 11 shoe!!! WTF has happened? Well, after a second round of clothes shopping today (and returning everything except two jackets that I'd bought before she got home) Kyra has a stack of new clothes. She is in a size 8!! Jeeze, Ryan wears a 9 but she's literally a foot taller than Kyra. But the shirts that I've bought both of them are the same sizes so now they can share shirts and double thier wardrobe, so there's a least an upside to it.
Kyra has already decided that she still doesn't want to see her mom... even though her mom bought her a gift for her birthday. I guess I just need to get over it because me pressuring her to see her mom isn't going to convince her. I think its been just over a year since she's seen her. When her mom had a baby back in January I had hopes that having a sister would change her mind, but I was wrong. I don't know... I just don't know.

Unfortunately this is payback to her mom treating her so poorly...kids remember things.
A size 8 isn't terrible it's just hard for her I suppose because Ryan is so tall and slim it would be hard to not compare. My friend whose daughter is 14 wears a size 16 so really it's not big. But you are right about high school girls...they can be cruel.

No,its not terrible but, still. she's only 5'2 and if she doesn't grow...
I just don't want her to get picked on. But the doctor says that is mostly what causes kids to change (not to mention shoot people!!)

I have a 5'2 daughter as well. She has been 5.2 since 5th grade and is now a Sr. in high school. She is gaining weight (from working at sonic!!) and I know she feels it. But, the kids dont give her nearly as much trouble as she gives herself.
Just be supportive and she will take care of things the way she needs to. The only thing worse than an overweight teen is a teen with an eating disorder (I have one of those too).
As for the Mom issue. I have no advice as I have no step children. I was, however, a step daughter. You must be doing something right if she doesn't hate you :)
