Update
Well, it isn't a good update but it's still an update.
They came to the decision that Ryan would be allowed to make up the assignment that the teacher lost, even though it was a 4 week project. 4 weeks!!?!!?!?!?! Plus, SHE didn't even lose it, the teacher did so why should SHE have to re-do it when the teacher even signed the sheet that Ryan turned it in? To top THAT off, we don't HAVE 4 weeks. Eligibility deadlines end at midnight tonight (11:59pm) and after that, it won't matter if they change her report card grade to an A+ she'd still have to sit for three weeks.
So Ryan stayed up ALL night last night getting it done and we turned it in this morning (she got a 100). So she's failing by 5/100's of a point. Now HERE is where it gets interesting and where the school has a HUGE problem on their hands.
Remember when I said that the teacher admitted to doing her own thing (working on her master's degree during the time she was supposed to be teaching)? Well, the grade sheet printout that they gave Ryan for ALL of her grades in English class also happens to show the average grades for the rest of her class. Guess what they had. Guess! You'll never believe it! A 55.3!!! The average grade of the class plummetedby more than 20pts this six week grading period. You tell ME if that teacher wasn't preoccupied.
So Craig is arguing that point with the school. I don't think it's going to work. At all. She's an athlete and they aren't going to want to have the problem on their hands of having passed an athlete in a gray area. She's never even come CLOSE to failing in her LIFE, though and all of her teachers give her E's in citizenship so it's not like she's some punk kid. Personally, I think EVERY kid in there deserves some extra points but that's going to be a subjective thing and I don't know where you draw the line so I guess we skip basketball for a few weeks and get the house ready to put up for sale.
We picked out the new house and it's just a matter of decided if we really want to take it on right now or not. Either way, we're going to get moving on this one so that we're prepared either way.
So today is another wait and see day. We should know by 4. My hopes aren't up at all. It's just better that way.
