I can't believe this has happened...
So I drag my ass out of the house at 8:30 this morning to make it to Ryan's first scrimmage and I'm not in my seat more than 5 minutes watching their warmup when I watch her hit the floor and immediately start crying. It wasn't until that very moment that I noticed she didn't have her ankle braces on. GOD DAMNIT!!!
So the coaches carry her to the sidelines and I meet them at the sidelines to wait on the trainer. Ryan tells me that the coach isn't handing out ankle braces until Monday (kneepads, too!) which pretty much sent me into a rage that I somehow managed to contain. She got out HER set of ankle braces and put them on, then the coach PUT HER IN THE GAME! Could someone please tell me why? She's hobbling around, barely able to put any weight on her right foot at all and even when she told the coach she needed a sub the coach left her in. I finally YELLED to Ryan to get off the court.
At this point the trainer took the ankle brace off and got ice on her. Her ankle was HUGE and I knew it was a disaster. She was crying, and her ankle just grew and grew. They wrapped it up to contain the swelling but the damage was done. She physically tested negative for high fractures, but was neutral for a fracture over the ankle so they told me to get her to the hospital.

Here she is at the hospital about 30 minutes after the pain medicine set in. Needless to say, she was feeling no pain... mostly. Shortly after this giggly period, the really sleepy period set in... Thank GAWD!

This picture was taken before the really bad swelling and bruising set in. And it's only going to get worse over the next four or five days!
So they x-rayed her ankle and the preliminary report is that there are no fractures but they said the swelling is severe enough that they can't be SURE of it until it is read by an orthpedic surgeon. They went ahead and referred her to the orthopedic surgeon who did the surgery on her foot and who had taken care of her knees. He's AWESOME. He treats several players from the Dallas Cowboys and the Texas Rangers. In fact, he was the Ranger's team doc for a while, so we really like this guy.
So for now, she's out at least two weeks, but as far as I'm concerned she is out of volleyball for good. I am LIVID that they didn't give them all of their equipment when they started working out. They damn sure wouldn't have sent the football team out on the field for a scrimmage without their helmets or pads, would they?
ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!
